South Africans in New Zealand

A South African counsellor, all the way to New Zealand.

Far from home, but not alone. Talk to someone who understands both sides of your life.

Home is part of your story.

Over 70,000 South Africans live in New Zealand, with a strong community on Auckland’s North Shore. The distance is the hardest part: South Africa is 10–11 hours behind, and a trip home is long and expensive.

Our counsellors understand the mix of relief, guilt and longing that often comes with the move, and can see you in your evening.

We see South Africans across New Zealand, including Auckland, North Shore, Christchurch, Wellington, Hamilton and Tauranga. Sessions are online, so it doesn’t matter where you live.

Questions South Africans in New Zealand ask us

Does the time difference work?

Yes. New Zealand is 10–11 hours ahead of South Africa, so our morning slots are your evening.

Is it covered by ACC or my insurer?

No. Our counsellors are registered in South Africa, so ACC and New Zealand insurers don’t usually cover sessions. They are paid privately.

How do I pay from overseas?

By card, Apple Pay or Google Pay through Yoco. International Visa, Mastercard and Amex cards are accepted, and you don’t need a South African bank account. Prices are in rand; your bank converts them.

Are your counsellors registered?

Yes. Every MyTruth counsellor is registered in South Africa with the HPCSA, ASCHP, CCSA or SACSSP and works under South African professional rules. Please check that receiving online counselling from a South African counsellor is fine where you live.
